"Agents of colonialism created a complex relationship of strife between the indigenous ethnic group that they met in Guyana and the other ethnic groups that were transplanted there. The Enslaved Africans were pitted against the other ethnic groups for the simple reason that they were considered a physically strong group, which threatened the existence of the Europeans in Guyana and therefore needed to be subdued."
